a day in my life 🤹‍♀️

Hello dear reader,

I had a day and a half recently. Without boring you with too many details, it

involved the following:

• packing for three days away doing some exciting work in London (but triple- checking everything because

a) I don’t trust myself

b) I have track record of forgetfulness in this area

• almost missing train because

a) Uber got stuck in hideous traffic and had to do some wild manoeuvres to get me to the station

b) I was stood on the wrong platform

• two trains later, I arrived for the first piece of work I was doing and

a) congratulated myself for building in buffer time for the first time in my life and arriving ahead of schedule and

b) promptly discovered that I was at the wrong venue – for the record it wasn’t my fault.

• we didn’t know where I was actually supposed to be for a few long minutes (it could have been Scotland for all I knew, I was at Gerrard’s Cross)

• luckily, I was only 30 minutes away from the actual destination.

Second Uber of the day, an actual hero that took me to Henley. My buffer time paid off. (This is the moral of the story, and yet I may not learn this lesson yet)

• the actual leadership workshop I was doing went really well and they were a

fantastic group

• I then had the wrong train tickets for after the event as I was in an unexpected place

• two more trains ensued, and a two hour delay due to an ill person further down the line

• next hazards involved navigating Canary Wharf (a part of London I do not know) in the dark, with my suitcase and about forty revolving doors which I have an irrational fear of

• I finally got to my hotel room and collapsed on my bed and ordered room service and felt a deep sense of joy and relief

Anyone relate to days like this?

The juggle, whatever it is, can be too much sometimes. Too many days that look like this can push us to our limits.

Too much of a good thing can push us over the edge, towards burnout, and too little of a good thing can leave us feeling a sense of boreout.

I recently had a deep-dive conversation with two brilliant women, Esther and Susie on their podcast, Limited Time Only. It’s a really good listen and will give you some tips as to how your personality can help and hinder when it comes to burnout.
