When Self-Doubt Gets Loud

There’s something I see time and time again in my clients, and it really gets to me. It makes me frustrated, angry even.

They’re on the edge of change. Maybe in transition. Maybe getting clearer on what’s next. Sometimes, they even know exactly what they want to do. But then, the same old voice pipes up:

These, my friends, are amongst the top ten hits of a favourite artist of ours, Self Doubt.

The problem is, self-doubt feels normal. Almost comforting. We’ve heard it so many times that it can masquerade as truth, humility, even common sense. But it’s not. Self-doubt paralyses us. It keeps us small. It convinces us to stay in places we’ve long outgrown. Not because they’re right, but because we don’t believe we’re capable of moving on.

Here’s the truth: you’re not alone. Around 85% of people wrestle with self-doubt, and research shows it’s fuelling a major confidence crisis. Only one in ten adults describe themselves as highly self-confident (and frankly, they’re not always the ones who should be!). Meanwhile, seven in ten of us battle against a constant inner critic that chips away at our self-esteem.

Positive self-talk? Growth mindset? Stepping out anyway? All good. But there’s something even more powerful.

When you know your purpose, you gain clarity and courage, even when you feel underqualified or unprepared. Purpose reframes the voice of doubt. It reminds you that stepping forward isn’t about ego or confidence, it’s about fulfilling the work you were made to do.

That’s what I get stuck into on this week’s podcast episode:

So, my advice to you today is, rather than trying to muster up your confidence, or just simply trying to ignore self doubt, try looking outside of yourself. Start your journey to discover your unique purpose, so that on the days of doubting you find a way to do it anyway. Because it’s the right thing to do, and breakthrough will surely come the other side of your choice to grow.

And if you’re standing at a crossroads, wondering what’s next for me? -  I’d love to walk with you. This Friday, I’m hosting a free 60-minute webinar just for those feeling stuck in a time of transition. Together, we’ll get clear on what matters most, uncover the strengths you may have overlooked, let go of what’s keeping you stuck, and sketch out your next right step.

(And yes, if you can’t join live, you’ll get the replay.)

So let me gently remind you: don’t let self-doubt call the shots. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need your next right step.

With love,
Hannah x

P.S. If you already know that you are ready to get the support you need to have a more purposeful next season, then the doors to the Purpose Pursuit are open. Doors close next week. Don’t let self-doubt get in the way of this opportunity. Come and join us x
