How are your New Year goals actually going?

Hello everyone,

So… how are the new you, new me, new goals going? Honestly?

Apparently, the data tells us that somewhere between 30–40% of us set New Year goals, most of them focused on health or finances. But, the success rates are pretty bleak. Most of us have given up by February, with fewer than 10% of goal-setters actually making it through the year.

Not so new you, new me, after all. What if we’re doing it the wrong way? Recently, I’ve noticed a slightly different conversation emerging.

Over the holidays, I read countless posts and articles suggesting that January isn’t actually the time for reinvention, big goals or bold new visions at all. After all, it’s the depth of winter. This isn’t a natural season for lasting change.

Instead, we’re being told it’s a time for hibernation - for going gently, resting, reflecting and waiting for spring before we really “begin again”.

Maybe there’s something in that. Perhaps if we honoured the season a little more, our success rates might be higher.

But what if there’s an in-between?

That’s exactly what Laura and I explore in this week’s podcast. Grounded in research and best practice, this episode is all about starting the year in a way that actually sticks: helping you believe that things can look different, and crucially, stay different. Bit by bit.

Honestly, this episode is packed - not just with motivation, but with practical tools that genuinely work. I’ve learned (the hard way!) that motivation alone simply isn’t enough. It gets us started, but it doesn’t keep us going,  which is exactly why so many of our goals are abandoned by February.

If you’re longing for change that lasts, I’d really encourage you to give this week’s podcast a listen.

Two final things before I go:

1. We’re making some exciting changes around here, so do watch this space later in the month (this is me putting it out there for accountability - there’s some stuff I am working on behind the scenes, and telling you all about it is one way of me increasing the likelihood of it happening!)

2. If you’ve not yet bought The Purpose Pursuit, it’s a wonderful way to kick-start meaningful change in 2026 - full of small but mighty ways to improve your life and deepen your sense of purpose.
